The UK Heat Pump Map is an interactive database of large-scale heat pump installations across the United Kingdom, focused on district energy networks and industrial heat decarbonisation applications.
It was created to provide a single, accessible reference for engineers, developers, policymakers and researchers working in the heat decarbonisation sector — a space where project intelligence is often fragmented across planning portals, press releases and trade publications.
The map focuses on large-scale heat pump installations in non-domestic applications. Projects are included where heat pumps form a primary or significant heat source within a district energy network or industrial process — typically systems of 500 kW capacity and above.
Domestic and small commercial heat pump installations are outside the scope of this map.
Projects are identified and verified through a combination of publicly available sources including planning applications, environmental permits, developer announcements, published case studies and trade press. Technical attributes — including heat pump type, capacity, refrigerant class, flow temperature and manufacturer — are recorded where reliably documented.
Project locations are approximate and reflect the site centroid rather than the precise plant room location. Capacity figures represent thermal output where stated, or electrical input where thermal data is unavailable.
The dataset is updated on an ongoing basis as new projects are commissioned, announced or brought to the author's attention. Project status reflects the best available information at the time of the last update and may not capture recent changes.
If you identify a missing project, an inaccuracy, or a change in project status, please get in touch via info@ukheatpumpmap.com.
The map is most useful when it is comprehensive. Contributions from those working directly in the sector are welcomed — whether you are a heat pump manufacturer, system developer, network operator, ESCO, local authority or consultant.
